Pediatric Endocrinology
Our pediatric specialists understand how to diagnose and treat complex endocrine conditions, which can affect your child’s appetite, blood sugar, and energy level.
Your child’s endocrine system produces a wide array of hormones that are vital to normal growth and development. Too much or too little of these hormones can lead to growth disorders, diabetes, weight gain or other types of problems. Some children also develop tumors in the glands that produce these hormones or are affected by a glandular disease.
We work closely with other Holtz Children’s Hospital specialists on our multidisciplinary medical team to develop a comprehensive, personalized plan for the treatment and management of these diseases and disorders.
Our pediatric endocrinologists treat a wide range of conditions, including:
- Growth disorders
- Diabetes mellitus
- Obesity linked to diabetes
- Hypothyroidism/hyperthyroidism
- Thyroid cancer
- Thyroid nodules/goiter
- Sexual hormone disorders
- Glandular tumors
- Pituitary tumors
- Adrenal insufficiency/disorders
- Cushing’s Syndrome

Endocrinology Clinical Services
Ranked among the top 50 programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report for the past decade. We are proud to be the only academic-based pediatric endocrinology program in South Florida. Our board-certified endocrinologists care for children and adolescents with:
Diabetes
We offer a multi-disciplinary approach for patients with diabetes, including medical, nutritional, educational and psychological support.
Growth Problems
We evaluate and treat children with slow growth. In addition, our pediatric endocrinology experts collaborate with our colleagues in pediatric oncology in a special clinic for the care of children with endocrinological problems associated with brain tumors.
Obesity
Our pediatric endocrinology program provides help in weight management and in the complications of obesity such as abnormal cholesterol and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Early Puberty
We help with the diagnosis and treatment of children with early puberty, including complete evaluations and therapy.
Thyroid Abnormalities
Children with hypothyroidism represent a large number of patients evaluated by physicians in pediatric endocrinology. This includes children born with thyroid deficiency and those who acquire it later in life. We are one of the only programs in South Florida who provide radio therapy treatment for thyroid cancer.
Other Endocrinological Disorders
Our team is an international referring center for children with complicated sexual disorders.
