Pediatric Neuro-Oncology

Specialized Neuro-Oncology care for kids, teens and young adults.

At UHealth Jackson Children’s Care, we bring together specialists to treat brain and spine tumors in young patients. Our pediatric neuro-oncology team includes experts in oncology, neurosurgery, radiation therapy, and other surgical specialties. Together, they deliver advanced, personalized care for each child.

We work hand-in-hand with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in South Florida. This gives our patients access to the latest treatments, including precision medicine and proton beam therapy. Our team also leads research aimed at finding treatments that are more effective and less harmful to growing bodies.

For tumors that are especially complex, we collaborate with experts in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery, plastic surgery, and eyes (ophthalmologists). This team-based approach ensures that each patient receives the safest, most thorough care possible.

Outpatient care takes place at Alex’s Place, a welcoming, kid-friendly clinic within Sylvester where children receive expert and compassionate care.

Whether a tumor is common or rare, our team works together to find the best path forward, using the latest technology, science, and a personalized approach for every child.

We care for a wide range of brain and spine tumors, including:

  • Anaplastic astrocytoma
  • Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (ATRT)
  • Brain tumors
  • Choroid plexus tumor
  • Craniopharyngioma
  • Diffuse astrocytoma
  • Diffuse midline glioma (DMG) / Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG)
  • Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor (DNET)
